I don’t know about you church, but I’m all for speeding up the calendar and putting 2020 behind us. “Normal” seems to be a distant memory at this point with culture wars and COVID causing the ground to continually shift beneath our feet. With anxiety and fear rising, tempers flaring and politics fueling the fire, how are we to respond as followers of Jesus in these difficult days? Let me encourage you to keep it simple…
- Look to the unchanging ONE
Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.
Hebrews 6:17-19 (NIV)
The anchor holds. Cling to the hope you have.
- Love Your Neighbor
Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind…. 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
Matthew 22:35-40 (NIV)
Jesus boiled the entire bible down to two basic responses on our part: Love God and Love people. Keep it simple and give that a shot. I’ve got a feeling He was on to something!
