I’ll never forget the counsel of my first mentor in ministry when I was frustrated with the inconsistency of attendance at our church. Dr. Jones sat me down 25 years ago and said, “Phil, pastoring a church is like pumping up a tire with a hole in it. Your job is to stay focused on Him and keep pumping”.
It’s easy to drift from the fellowship of believers. Virtually everything in our world today seeks to pull us away. The enemy subtly, slowly and all too often imperceptibly, replaces one priority with another. The flesh masterfully justifies our absence and creates a new narrative with us as the main character and Jesus in a supporting role.
Let me ask you something...
Which side of the pump are you on? Are you drawing fresh air into the church or are you creating a vacuum that someone else must fill?
“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”
1 Corinthians 12:27 (NIV)
